Dieter Vaganée (1990). Growing up in a musical family, where his uncles and father all play wind
instruments, he quickly became fascinated by this and at the age of 10 chose the alto saxophone as his
instrument. Then he went to play with his father in the harmony of Mechelen. Since then he has also
enrolled in the Conservatory of Mechelen and studied classical saxophone with Rudy
Haemers. At a young age he also developed a great interest in jazz music from home. As a result, at the
age of 16, he switched to the jazz education of the Conservatory of Mechelen, where he received
saxophone lessons from Tom Mahieu. His passion for music never ceased. He decided to continue his
studies and gain experience in music making. First in the Antwerp Art Humaniora for one year with Bart
Defoort as Sax teacher. And after that he studied for two years at the Lemmens Institute in Leuven,
where he received Saxophone lessons from Frank Vaganée. And then another year at the Royal
Conservatory of Antwerp where he received Saxophone lessons from Ben Sluijs. Currently studying at the Conservatorium of Brussels. His main instrument is
Alto saxophone but also plays Bariton and Soprano saxophone and klarinet & flute regularly. Nowadays besides being active as a freelance musician,
he is active in Q-some big band, CasiDiet, Addis Avenue and his own band Dieter Vaganée
Quartet. He also teaches at the Wonderful World Music School in Mechelen (Belgium).
